Spend time among living artifacts of the Ute People: Culturally Modified Trees

Friday - Sunday, Sep 27 - 29, 2024

The Ute people lived in the Shining Mountains for over 11,000 years before any White hunters or settlers arrived in what we now call Colorado. The land on which Benet Hill Monastery is located was part of their annual migration path.

Sister Jan Ginzkey, OSB leads this retreat and invites you to come learn about the Ute people. You will learn how to recognize the trees that were culturally modified by the Utes and learn why they might have been modified. You will explore trees in the forest of Benet Hill and Fox Run Regional Park. You will also be able to be one with the natural beauty of creation as Jesse Brown, a Benedictine Oblate, guides you in the practice of Forest Bathing (August retreat only).

The retreat begins Friday evening at 7:00pm and concludes at 3:00pm on Sunday. Single or double accommodations are available with a $40 price discount for these hosted retreats. Commuters are also welcome! Meals are optional. Snacks and supplies are included. Please register early as these retreats are popular.
