- The assignments are due by the first week of the next month.
- Our online forum meets twice a month for 90 minutes each session.
- You will be assigned a facilitator that will accompany you the entire two years.
- The program encourages and cultivates the desire for contemplative living and prayer.

This program provides safe, confidential and sacred space as you become a spiritual director. Integrate your new skills in your current ministry or life work.
What separates us from other programs is that it is a “spiritual heart program.” What does that mean? The hardest spiritual journey is the one taken from our heads to our hearts. This is the precise journey where we meet God. As a spiritual director you companion individuals who desire cultivating a deeper relationship with their God.
The first year is a transformative path that helps you know your own “heart”. The process of self-discovery is used to uncover your spiritual story. You are guided to listen to your inner voice of wisdom. The gifts of this journey cultivate a more compassionate heart, an ability to see more of God in everything, and better skills to listen to self and others while holding the sacred space within.
The second year is devoted to acquiring the skills to become a spiritual director, participation in a practicum or internship, and learning the importance of ethics and supervision in the practice of spiritual direction. Upon successful completion of the program, each graduate is awarded certification as a spiritual director.

“We have learned a new way of living in the world, through awareness, and to see with God’s eyes, to hear with God’s ears, and to love with God’s heart.”
- Graduate of Benedictine Spiritual Formation Program
The GLOBAL ONLINE BENEDICTINE SPIRITUAL DIRECTION PROGRAM is a two-year program designed to meet the needs of individuals in today’s world who need flexibility and the ability to be creative in managing the study aspect of the program. The program profoundly impacts those who wish to deepen their spiritual life and how they relate to others. This transformational path, along with learning the skills needed to be a spiritual director, prepares you for the call to this ministry.
We have kept pace with technology advancement in digital video conferencing to provide quality audio and visual interactive-live virtual connection since 2007. The revised curriculum is presented in monthly instructional modules. An instructor will be assigned to you for the entire two-year program.
The new Global Online Benedictine Spiritual Direction Year One will begin in January 2020 and run through August 2020.
“I just have to say THANK YOU. This program has helped me grow and stretch in so many ways that I’m able to be with people in different ways than before. This program should be a requirement for ALL seminarians. I’ve learned more about pastoral care through this program than from my seminary classes. I can be in a conversation with people who are struggling and together we can find ways to see God is in the mud. I can calmly sit in the dark with them without wanting to throw in a cheer to liven up the mood.
People want to have real conversations about God, and not just regurgitate scripture. I had one of those days where I was listening to many people who needed to hear how God is still active in their world. I needed to thank you all for what you do, and how you have given me space to grow. Thank you!” -Lisa Mensinger, 2018 Graduate; Sandy, UT
The greatest gift I received from participating in BSFP was having a safe place to heal and grow spiritually so that I can, in turn, be a channel for companioning others as they heal and grow spiritually. I have also learned how exciting, fulfilling and liberating it is to connect with the Divine Mystery through a myriad of modalities.
The authentic commitment to Benedictine Spirituality undergirding this program was most helpful to me as well as the deep prayer, care and hospitality the Sisters of Benet Hill extended to us.
My transformation process is ongoing, but with greater intention and grounding. I don’t feel “finished” – This program is not a finishing school for spiritual directors! Rather, I feel empowered to continue the process on a different scale. I continue to do my inner work, even as I integrate Benedictine spirituality into my ministry as a priest, chaplain, and spiritual director.
I am so grateful and appreciate the time, care, and resources that Benet Hill has provided through its program.” -Rev. Valerie Webster, 2013 Graduate; Bozeman, MT
