Benet Hill Monastery Schola

The Benet Hill Schola is a group of singers who add a special touch and leadership to the Advent, Christmas, and Easter seasons. Schola rehearses after mass on Sunday a few weeks before each season.

What is Schola?

Schola, in a monastic setting means, “school of the Lord’s service” as described by St. Benedict. The Schola Cantorum, which means, “school of singers” originated in Rome during the early Middle Ages and is a reference to monastics chanting the Divine Office each day. In recent years, the Schola at Benet Hill evolved from just the Sisters choir to a choir comprised of sisters, oblates, and members of the Sunday Assembly. All are welcome to enjoy the fellowship that is created in a choir.

Readers and proclaimers of the world

Benet Hill welcomes all to join us on Sunday morning at 10:15 AM for Mass. If you become a regular attender and enjoy the liturgy for the Sunday Assembly, you are welcome to talk to Sarah about becoming a reader and proclaimer of the Word. Or of the prayerful intensions each Sunday. Training is provided in an ongoing supportive environment

Sing with Sarah

When you become a part of the Benet Hill Community, you will understand that we enjoy and encourage singing! Check the link below to enjoy the upcoming unfamiliar music that will be introduced in our Sunday Liturgy. This includes new mass settings, songs, and direction for special services.

Liturgy of the hours

All are welcome to join the Sisters of Benet Hill Monastery for the daily singing of the Divine Office, also known as the Liturgy of the Hours. Because we change the liturgy for feasts, commons, and ordinary liturgical celebrations, it is important to understand the basics of the prayer. Please look at the YouTube video before you join us as a visitor or retreat guest. I believe your prayer experience will be better enjoyed if you watch before you arrive. Also, please come 10 minutes early and find a seat with one of the sisters so they might guide you.

We will use this Mass Setting for Ordinary Time – Jan 18-Feb 15.
